Busy Queen Bee (Part 2) - Bed Bugs

Having not fully recovered from insufficient rest during the weekend, I was traumatised that the hubby's bed was invaded with blood sucking invader - BED BUGS on a Monday night!

It was a huge pain in the ass!!!

We disposed his sofa bed at 1am!! YES! Freaking 1am! Those blood suckers start to hunt for their food at night, like vampires. And my hubby was the only huge block of food source! HAHA!

We spent 2 days to check and clear the vicinity for bed bugs survivors! Exhausting. And more than a week to monitor the condition - to ensure that all bed bugs are eliminated!

Tips to detect Bed Bugs:

  1. They have a unique odor when squashed to death. I related that smell to smelly oil.
  2. Bites take longer time to subside as compared to mozzie bites.
  3. There might be more than one bites at the same area - I read of an article saying that when the bugs are trying to suck our blood, if the process was disturbed, they find another spot near and suck again.
  4. They leave traces (usually black) alot - Some says that they "burped out" the blood after digesting.
  5. Their eggs are white in color, and are very tiny (smaller than one rice grain)!

To date, we are not sure of the source of these blood suckers! But we suspected it was from hubby's bag (we saw more than 5 bugs and some eggs!), which means WORK PLACE! The cute hubby was bag-less, he used sundown marathon race pack tote bag to house his gigantic laptop and brought it to work! He brought torch light and a bottle of insecticide to work too! HAHA! -My heart is laughing hard while typing this- He deliberately went to work earlier than usual to investigate. To his disappointment, he couldn't find anything but adolescent cockroaches! YIKES. Oh, not forgetting to say, he earn suspicious stares from his colleague, who questioned what he searching and the purpose of the insecticide! =X

How to kill Bed Bugs

  1. Buy insecticide that will kill bed bugs - Our classic Baygone is unable to kill them!
  2. Use steamer to steam bed trimming, pillows and to play safe, steam anything that can be steam in the infected vicinity - Bed bugs die on high temperature!
  3. Soak clothes with boiling water.
  4. Cling wrap (or just wrap) items that are no longer in used.

I soaked hubby's bag with boiling water for 2 days, and used hair dryer to heat his bag to play safe, especially the trimming where bed bugs usually hide! Kiasu me used torchlight to check and check while blowing too! HEEHEE!
